The Black Orchid
Starter: £4.50 Main meal: £6.95 Wine: £3.50
Squirreled away at the back of The John Baird, this Thai restaraunt offers an extensive menu of punchy Thai dishes. The nearby drinkers mean the atmosphere is totally informal, but the service is still attentive and more maitre'd than maitre'don't. There's also a great Monday night curry club and cheapish express menu that has a devoted following, with the drinks menu as varied as you'd expect from an eaterie adjacent to a traditional pub.

Went on Friday having heard good things about it over the years. Very nice. The spicy sea bass was great. The Papaya salad was good but could have had more chilli and less sugar.

I have only recently discovered this gem in Muswell Hill. Delicious food, lovely staff and reasonably priced.

Having had a really bad experience here a few years ago id avoided it since but went back recently and was really impressed. The service was quick and efficient and the food was really good and much improved from my previous visit, i went in again last week and it was just as good so im putting my bad experience to one side and making this a regular haunt I didn't realise they did takeaway so will give that a try too...

Quite a lonely looking place but don't be put off by the perceived lack of customers as many regulars eat their meals in the adjacent pub and the food really is excellent.

I'm not overly keen on this place. Was here with my mum for mothers day and the staff couldn't cope with all of the orders. the foods good though, you cant fault that. Also, the pub buzzing nearby makes it a bit of a weird one. Probs best to stick to takeout from here.

Came here the night the Carol singers were singing in the pub. Lovely atmosphere, just sitting back waiting for food listening to the music.
The food.....gorgeous, 5th time we've been here and think it's as good as the first time, also very affordable.

If you can deal with the pub smell then definitely worth tasting their soups and Yom Tom. Also they had something with white fish in a coconut sauce last time which was amazing.
