Went to Garam Masala on a Wowcher "eat up to £90 of food" deal. Firstly, when booking, they led me to believe they were fully booked for 6pm and moved my time - we arrived at 6.30pm to find only two tables taken. When we had sat down, and wanted to order a selection of vegetarian side dishes that we could share, we were told each person could only have one starter, one mains, and one desert - the only desert available when it came to it was vanilla ice cream!!! Not what you're led to believe on the voucher!!!
Despite not having spent £90 on food, we were told we had to pay extra for popadoms, and extra for a side dish (as each person could only have a starter, mains and desert. Nowhere on the voucher did it say this - it mentioned king prawn dishes would be extra, but we weren't having that. So, not having spent £90, we paid for popadoms and the side dish. Sharp practice!
Also, when they handed us the bill, they had added 10% service charge automatically despite it saying on the voucher it is "discretionary". When I challenged this the waiter said "the big boss" told them they had to do this! I said I was not paying it as it was discretionary, and told them if I had good food and service I would tip for that of my own accord. They then took the service charge off. All in all, I felt people were being scammed. I'd known we would have to pay extra for drinks/king prawn dishes, but once we had arrived they laid down more rules which were not on the voucher. We ended up paying £30 extra including a small tip.
The food and service were OK, but I would not go back as I feel they are not honest with people, and there are better restaurants which don't try to scam you. A definite thumbs down!!!!!
