The Maid of Muswell
Kitchen
Beer: £3.50 Wine: £4
Right on the border of where Muswell Hill becomes Bounds Green, 'The Maid' as it is often affectionately known, serves as a local drinking spot for many of the residents who live around the Alexandra Park parade. The food is high-quality and the drinks are too. An easy place to wile away a Sunday afternoon, particularly in the summer, where the front and rear beer garden really fill-up.

I've always found the Maid of Muswell to be warm, friendly and a with nice mix of people. The food is good but not in the same league as the Victoria Stakes. A great local though with nice beers.

I am pleased to say that the Maid of Muswell is my local pub. The food here is great! And I recently discovered that it is the same menu as the Spaniards Inn pub at the top of Hampstead Heath. But I think the food tastes better at the Maid of Muswell.
The atmosphere is nice and contrary to the one negative review on this page, I haven't come across any snooty people there, only friendly. And I don't think it is mostly older people either. Its a good mixture of both.
It fills up on weekends and if you want to eat I recommend booking a table in advance.
It isn't on the broadway but well worth the 15 minute walk or 5 minute bus ride.

The Maid is literally 10 seconds walk from my door, so I suppose that classifies it as my local. It's about 20mins walk from Muswell Hill, just past the vets on Alexandra Park Road, & about 15mins walk from Bounds Green tube station.
Visited on Friday night for food, when all the tables were taken by 7pm &, as soon as I walked though the door, I was greeted by an enormous belch from one of the patrons near the bar. A great start.
The place has a very appealing atmosphere, almost country pub-like, & is well-decorated & has a good amount of space for eaters. I had a halloumi salad to start & then a spinach & lentil burger for main, both of which were very tasty. With a soft drink & a glass of wine the meal came to less than £30 for 2, which I found to be a good deal.
A pretty good amount of choice on the menu, reasonable (gastropubby) prices, a classy atmosphere (if not clientele) and friendly service mean this is a pub I'll definitely be going back to. As an added bonus it has a resident celebrity-Perry Fenwick who played Eddie in I.D. (& perhaps more famously, Billy in EASTENDERS)-who was having a good old time there when I visited.
Overall, worth a visit if you're in the area, but a bit of a schlep from Muswell Hill for a special visit. I hear they do excellent Sunday roasts though...

Another of Muswell Hill's 'nice' pubs, and certainly I have never experienced the previous reviewers 'snooty regulars'.
I would also point out to the previous reviewer that the food is nowhere near 'gastro' standard, and although the burgers are fine for pub food, the rest of the menu is quite poor.
Depite that, I really do like spending an evening here and would certainly recommend it.

The people can be snooty here, especially if you're not a regular (like @charlie champing says, Billy Mitchell). The food is better than your average gastro pub though.
Maid of Muswell - what is the story behind the cow?

It's a bit out of the way this one, real 15 minute to twenty minute walk from the Broadway - closes far too early for a pub but still the food and drink is great and the clientele are older, more mature. Old Billy from 'Enders is always down there too.
